Bodo Babaji, Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, and the farmer’s son

The Bodo Babaji

The Bodo Babaji

Once during the middle of the month of Vaisakh in 1883 a farmer brought his dead son to Ramakrishna Paramhamsa at Dakshineswar Kali Temple. His son was dead because he was bitten by a king cobra in a nearby jungle. He was praying to Thakur Ramakrishna to help his son. Ramakrishna assured him, “Do not worry, wait a little bit. Someone will arrive soon and he will revive your son.”  Thakur Ramakrishna then ordered the farmer to keep his son’s dead body outside the door of the temple, and to cover it with new cloth and to place a full bowl of milk and a banana next to the body. Within a short while Sri Radharaman Charan Das Dev (Bodo Babaji) came with a large procession of Vaisnavas doing Nam Sankirtan. They were completely absorbed in chanting,

Nitai Gaura Radhey Shyam
Hare Krishna Hare Ram

Bodo Babaji was wearing a Punjabi kurta made of fine silk with buttons made of gold, stylish shoes, and had a walking stick in hand. Bodo Babaji had a peculiar appearance but he was completely absorbed in kirtan and was totally unaware of his surroundings. Thakur Ramakrishna jumped up and garlanded him with a flower mala from Ma Kali and gave him a hug. Both went mad and exhibited asta-sattvika-vikara and fell unconscious. After sometime when they regained external consciousness Thakur Ramakrishna told Bodo Babaji Maharaja, “He has kept me here at Dakshineswar, has He kept you at Nadiya?” as if he knew Bodo Babaji for a long time.

Thakur Ramakrishna told Bodo Babaji Maharaj, “For the reason He has sent you here, please finish that job”. In reply Bodo Babaji Maharaja said, “You can also do that, why you are asking me?” After a little quarrel over this issue ended Bodo Babaji Maharaj started kirtan. Everyone went mad. They started laughing and dancing with divine pleasure. The gold buttons flew off the body of Bodo Babaji along with his silk kurta and dhoti. Only his dor-kaupin remained.

Suddenly a large king cobra appeared from the jungle and kissed the feet of the dead body of the farmer’s son and drank the milk with the banana. After that the snake made his exit towards the west, back into the jungle. The farmer’s son opened his eyes.  The kirtan went wild in ecstasy. Thakur Ramakrishna started laughing and clapping his hands like a child and shouted “Jai Ma Dayamayi!”

Jai Nitai,

Baba, I loved this story about sri radharaman very much, because this story has not been written in “charit sudha”, sri radharaman is my life , except him I don’t know anything.
I sometimes used to think, that thakur sri RamKrishna and my life’s treasure sri radharaman should and must have been met. But when and where that I didn’t know.
See my prabhu’s kripa, how he showed me that: ‘What you wanted to know, I am making you know that thing.’

Listen bhai, I am very petty and paltry prabhu’s servant’s servant, without sri radharaman’s kripa I have no other path or option, therefore bhai, if you find similar story or anything to say about my life’s treasure sri radharaman, then please tell this dim-witted person, for which I will be ever grateful and indebted to you.

Take care,
Abhishek.

BHAJO NITAI GAUR RADHE SHYAM
JAPO HARE KRISHNA HARE RAM

Jai Nitai,

baba,

I am very dim-witted, petty, paltry prabhu’s servant’s servant,
I do not have any knowledge whatsoever, although what my life’s treasure sri
radharaman has told or taught me, that only I can try to tell you.

You have asked who is “SRI GURUDEV”.
Well, this whole earth and even this whole universe is SRI GURUDEV’S LIGHT.
It is not possible for people like me to really define who is Sri Gurudev, but I can only say that Sri GuruDev is who takes you from ignorance to knowledge, who even after your misdeeds showers his mercy upon you and shows you the right and best path to follow, who is so benevolent and kind that he does not see or decide whether you deserve to be his subject of mercy and kripa or not but he simply showers his PREM SUDHA upon you, and see to it that you do not deviate from the path that he has shown to you.

In fact every person you meet with or talk or deal with can be your SRI GURU.
Just for example:
A person comes and says to you, that prabhu, Please tell me how can I
attain GOD, and which is the best path that is to be taken following which
one can easily attain god, in this kaliyuga. Then you tell him which is the right way according to your own wisdom, and pray to god and prabhu, that the person always chants your name, and always performs the bhajan-sankirtana.
Then in this context that person becomes your SRI GURU, because if that person did not came to you, and if that person did not prayed to you, and asked about the path to attain god, then you would have never prayed to GOD for his wisdom, you would have never chanted the name of god, and tell that person also to chant the name of GOD.Thus that person becomes your SRI GURU.

Therefore, my Life’s most cherished and prized treasure sri radharaman has taught me to see and feel SRI GURU’s Light and knowledge in very object/thing/person with whom I interact with.

Baba, I am a very very dim-witted, petty and paltry prabhu’s servant’s servant. Without the blessing and mercy of vaishnav people like you I have no other path/option. Therefore please bless me baba, so that nityananda prabhu showers his mercy upon me, so that I can becomes nityananda prabhu’s servant’s servant, sri radharamana showers his kripa upon me, so that I always have pure bhakti on his sri charan, and always do nishkama seva of vaishnavs. Please bless me baba, so that one day by the blessing and mercy of sri nityananda prabhu and my sri radharaman and blessing of vaishanavas, I can obtain Sri gauranga’s charan.

Jai Nitai,
Please accept my humble dandvats !
I am so delighted to have discovered your page on Bodo Babaji, who is our forefather. He is our everything. I was blessed by Harinaam diksha by a great sidha guru in Vrindavan some years back with my wife. After that my father and mother also took the diksha. I feel so lonely in this world because I don’t find my pure Vaishnavs and guru borthers or sons (like you) of Bodo Babaji. I want to create a community on website wherein all of us can remain connected and share thier spiritual experiences for better spread of “Nitai Gaur Radhey Shyam Bhaj Harey Krishna Harey Ram”. Please respond back and suggest how can I get in touch with other Vaishnavs in the line of Bodo Babaji.
Dandvats !
